900,060. Cleaning endless conveyers during operation thereof. DORRIES A.G., O. Nov. 15, 1960 [Feb. 10, 1960], No. 39240/60. Class 78(1). In apparatus for cleaning conveyer belts, e.g. the " felts " of papermaking machines during operation thereof, cleaning liquid is applied to one face of the belt and caused to form a pool of the fluid which is vibrated by an ultrasonic vibrator to loosen the dirt, and the fluid is subsequently withdrawn from the belt by suction applied either to the opposite face of the belt or to the same face of the belt downstream of the point at which the liquid is applied. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the liquid is applied under pressure via a hose 13 to a chamber 2 containing a vibrator 1, a suction chamber 3 to which suction is applied via a hose 14 being arranged downstream of the chamber 2. The chambers 2, 3 are formed in a casting over which a cover-plate 15 having corresponding apertures is fitted, plate 15 being arranged to press against the working face of the belt 4. The casting is traversed across the belt during operation by a screw 17 co-operating with a guide rod 19. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the vibrator is in the suction chamber 3, chamber 2 being omitted from the casting and replaced by a nozzle 5 carried by a mounting 16 which is traversed by another screw 18 and guide rod 20. In another embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown), the suction chamber 3 is arranged below the belt as in Fig. 1, but the vibrator and pressure chamber 2 are arranged in a separate casting above the belt which is traversed by another screw 18 and guide rod 20 as in the embodiment of Fig. 3.
