Abstract
856,531. Lamp caps and holders. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 16, 1959, No. 5362/59. Class 38(1) A lampholder for a tubular fluorescent lamp comprises an end member 7 of insulating material slidably supported in the end of a channel-section main member 1 which has a flap 4 and tabs 5, 6. The end member is urged against the flap and tabs by a spring 9 and has guide channels 12 to facilitate insertion of the pins of a lamp into sockets 11. An end member similar to the' member 7 is either rigidly mounted at the other end of the main member or fitted in the same manner as the end member 7. A lamp is inserted in the holder by tilting the end member outwards so that the terminal pins of the lamp can be slid along the grooves 12 into the sockets 11. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the end member 7 is urged by a spring 19 against pressed-in parts 14, 15, 16 of the main member 1. In a further construction, a leaf spring may press the end member against stops in the main member. The open side of the main member may be closed by a cover plate forming a reflector or diffuser or provided with louvres for ventilation. The end member may be shaped for use with lamps having a recessed double contact cap.
