Abstract

856,451. Ball-and-socket joints. MILLARD, C. F. June 3, 1959 [June 7, 1958], No. 18277/58. Class 65(2). The ball head K is made of graphite-impregnated nylon or other plastic material having similar properties which is moulded around an enlargement C at one end of a metallic shank A and maintained in resilient contact with a preformed annular seating R moulded of similar plastic material and permanently located in the housing eye L. The enlargement C may be spherical, as shown, or consist of a plurality of circumferential flanges on the end of the shank, and the ball head is directly engaged by a spring steel cap T which holds the head in engagement with the seating R which extends to the diametral plane of the head. A dust excluder V is provided.
