Abstract

855,580. Rectifying. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. June 18, 1959 [July 30, 1958], No. 24533/58. Class 38 (2). In order to increase the no-load D.C. output voltage of a rectifier circuit U1 supplied from a transformer secondary winding S1 a boost rectifier circuit U2 is connected in parallel with U1, the supply voltage to U2 being greater than that to U1. A ballast resistor R1 is included in the boost circuit and rectifier U3 is included to protect the rectifier U1 at no-load. A filter circuit L1, L2, C1, C2 is included. A threephase arrangement is disclosed in which the boost supply is derived from one of the phases and stepped-up by a transformer. In another three-phase arrangement three-phase transformers are used for both the main and boost rectifiers. The rectifiers comprise bridgeconnected arrangements of silicon, germanium or selenium rectifying elements.
