Abstract

855,400. Roller skates. VANURA, E., and VANURA, C. July 11, 1958 [July 11, 1957], No. 22308/58. Classes 136(1) and 136(2). A roller skate comprises a frame structure mounted on a driving wheel 11 and two idler rollers 9, a pedal plate 13 rockably mounted in the frame structure 7 and connected to the wheel 11 by transmission means in such a manner that the wheel is driven through the transmission means by a rocking motion of the pedal plate. The transmission means comprises a pair of ratchet operated sprockets 21 mounted on the axle of the front driving wheel and transmission chains 20 passing over the sprockets 21 and connected by belts 17 to the front end of the pedal plate at 16. The pedal plate is provided with a bar 14 which is slidable in a slot 15 in the frame 7. A brake is provided on the rear axle 10 (Fig. 5) between the rollers 9 and is actuated manually by a bowden cable 32. The opposite end of the bowden cable 32 of each skate is connected to a manually controllable brake operating member (Fig. 6). Springs 35 are arranged in a frame 34 to hold the brake actuating grip bar 33 in the operative position.
