855,239. Tumbling. OETIKER, H. Jan. 5, 1959, No. 363/59. Class 60. In a device for the treatment of small goods comprising a drum rotatably mounted on a pivoted carrier, the axis of rotation of the drum being perpendicular to the pivoted axis of the carrier, the carrier is U-shaped and the pivoted axis is divided into two sections which are pivotally supported, the pivoted carrier being fixed to the ends of the pivoted sections, the rotatable drum is so arranged within the pivoted carrier that its centre of gravity lies at least approximately in the pivoted axis, and counterbalance means is provided separate from the carrier for balancing the pivoted carrier and any elements mounted thereon. A rotatable drum 7, Figs. 1 and 2, with an access opening 7a has a shaft 8 mounted in a U-shaped carrier 4. A motor 11 on the carrier 4 drives the shaft 8 through gearing. The ends 4a, 4b of the carrier are secured to pivots 5, 6 mounted in supporting columns 1, 2 held together by a cross-piece 17. The frame is pivoted by a handle 12 engageable with notches 18. To counterbalance the carrier 4 and the driving means carried thereby, the pivot 5 carries a cam 13 round which is wound a steel band 14, the free end carrying a weight 16 ; the column 1 is hollow and the parts 13, 14, 16 are located within it. In a modfication, Fig. 3, counterbalancing is effected by a spring 25.
