Abstract

854,966. Troughing rollers for belt conveyers. SPENCE, F. W. Jan. 14, 1957 [Oct. 14, 1955], No. 29268/55. Class 78 (1). A troughing roller assembly for belt conveyers consists of a trough-shaped cradle 1, preferably of tubular metal construction, carrying arms 2, 7 between which inclined rollers 4 and a central roller 6 respectively are mounted, the cradle having brackets 8 welded to its underside by which it is secured to the stringers 9 of the conveyer frame. The arms 2 mounting the inclined rollers are offset to one side of the vertical plane in which the cradle lies, and the arms 7 are offset to the other side of this plane, so that the rollers 4, 6 may overlap as shown. The ends of each pair of arms 2, 7 are forked to take a spindle 3 which is secured by nuts 5. Each roller comprises a cylindrical body with rebated ends into which are fitted housings 13a for the outer races 14a of ball-bearings, the inner races 14b of which are disposed on the spindle 3. Each bearing is sealed by a seal 15 and held in position by a spacer 16 and end-plate 17. A roller 10 for the lower run may be mounted on the conveyer frame by separate brackets 11 as shown, or be suspended by brackets from the cradle 1.
