Abstract
Titanium base alloys containing 0.9% to 2.6% copper are solution heat treated at 750 DEG C. to 1000 DEG C. for a period greater than five minutes and air cooled or water quenched to substantially room temperature. The preferred treatment comprises heating to 780 DEG C. to 810 DEG C. for 10 minutes to 1 hour, the alloy containing 1.8% to 2.2% copper. The cooled alloy is aged at 300 DEG C. to 600 DEG C. for a period between 10 and 1000 hours and a cold reduction of 2% to 25% may be interposed between the solution treatment and the ageing treatment. The heat treatment may be effected in air or a controlled atmosphere.
