Abstract

Sulphur dyestuffs of the phthalocyanine series are made by reacting phthalocyanines or their metal complex salts with hydroxylamine salts or primary o -nitroparaffins having a chain length of less than 4 carbon atoms, such as acidic hydroxylamine sulphate or nitro methane, and a mixture containing about 50-90% by weight of sulphuric acid monohydrate and about 50-10% by weight of chlorosulphonic acid in the presence of a compound of an element of Group Va or VIa of the Periodic Table, such as ammonium molybdlate or vanadium pentoxide, at a temperature in the range of 70 DEG -150 DEG C. to form polyaminophthalocyanines which are reacted, without being isolated, in the same temperature range with at least 5 mols of sulphur monochloride per mol of polyaminophthalocyanine.
