Abstract

1,185,439. N-Monosubstituted amidosulphonic acids. FARBENTABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 24 Oct., 1968 [21 Nov., 1967], No. 50528/68. Heading C2C. N - Monosubstituted amidosulphonic acids, R.NH.SO 3 H, are prepared by mixing a urea of formula R.NH.CO.NH.R<SP>1</SP>, in which R is an aliphatic or oycloaliphatic radical and R<SP>1</SP> is identical with R or may be hydrogen, either with at least twice the molar quantity of sulphur trioxide, or with (1) at least the equimolar quantity of sulphur trioxide or of a compound that gives off sulphur trioxide, and then (2) with at least the equimolar quantity of sulphur trioxide, in the presence of an inert organic diluent, e.g. an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon, and at a temperature between - 20‹ C. and + 140‹ C. Specified compounds that furnish sulphur trioxide include chlorosulphonio acid, and addition compounds of sulphur trioxide with 1,4-dioxan and dimethyl formamide. Examples detail the preparation of N-methyl-, N-propyl- and N-cyclohexyl-amido sulphonic acids.
