Abstract

Sulphur dyestuffs of the phthalocyanine series are made by reacting phthalocyanine or a metal complex thereof with hydroxylamine and chlorsulphonic acid at 100-150 DEG C. in the presence of a compound of an element of Group V(a) or VI(a) (e.g. ammonium molybdate or vanadium pentoxide), and reducing the product obtained, e.g. with iron, zinc dust, or stannous chloride. Hydroxylamine sulphate or chloride or the hydroxylamine sulphonic acids may be used. Examples describe the reaction of copper, cobalt, and nickel phthalocyanines as above to give products which dye cotton bluish-grey or greenishgrey shades.
