Abstract

854,529. Flow-boxes of paper-making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Sept. 30, 1957 [Dec. 27, 1956], No. 30567/57. Class 96. Paper pulp flows at high speed through a pipe 11, and at lower speed through a transverse pipe 40, through a series of vertical pipes 41a, through conduits 31, 30, through flow-evener rolls 24e, 24c and 24d and 24a and 24b in a flow-box 20, and out through a slice S to a wire-cloth W of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine. The incoming pulp thus flows through a succession of turns of a right or greater angle, the conduit 31 and pipe 11 sloping upwardly in the direction of flow. The conduit 31 has a constricted region A, and its depth is adjustable as by the use of shims 50 and 52. In a modification, the pipes 41a, which are close together, are formed by two metal sheets bolted together, one being shaped to provide curved conduit walls abutting against the other plate which is flat.
