854,029. Wool-pulling machines. DURAND, J. March 12, 1959 [March 21, 1958], No. 8529/59. Class 76. In a wool-pulling machine, the skin carrier consists of a drum (with means for fastening the skin to be unhaired along one of its generatrices) which is in continuous rotation during operation; the rotary tool-holder consists of a pair of parallel flanges secured on a common rotary shaft and carrying pins (spaced circularly about the shaft axis) on which are pivotally mounted arms each angularly displaceable between stops carried by the flanges, the arms being normally urged by springs in one direction and being connected in pairs by fittings each having secured thereon a blade of flexible material, the tool holder shaft being adapted to hand control to enable the tool holder to be moved relatively to the skin carrier. The skin carrier is preferably formed with a longitudinal cavity in which an arm biased by a return spring is pivoted on a hinge pin and carries a transverse rod adapted to clamp the skin against one of the longitudinal edges of the cavity when said arm is freely responsive to the return spring. Fig. 1 shows a fragmentary-radial section of a suitable tool holder. On the flange 27 are a number of aligned pivot pins 28 spaced along a circle concentric to the each pin 28 has pivotally mounted thereon an arm 29 responsive to a tension spring 31 urging the relevant arm against an adjustable stop 32, while another stop 33 limits the displacement of the arm 29 in the opposite direction during the wool pulling operation. The arms 29 are interconnected in pairs by angle iron or like fittings 34 on each of which a blade 35 of resilient material such as rubber is secured for the purpose of unhairing the skin as it is brought into contact with the blades by the rotating skin carrier. Figs. 2-6 (not shown) depict respectively a fragmentary front elevational view of the tool holder and lateral elevational views of a complete machine before, during, upon completion of and after the unhairing operation.
