Abstract

In fitting a crown pin to a tooth root, a guide wire is cemented into the root canal and is subsequently used as a guide for a hollow drill, which fits around it. The drill has an adjustable stop on its shank to limit the depth of penetration. If a hole terminating in a point is required, an initial cylindrical hole is first formed as described above and then a flat drill, having a pointed tip, is used to form the remainder of the hole, the first cylindrical section being used as a guide.
