Abstract

1,129,143. Dental posts. SHAWTREN Ltd. 26 May, 1966 [8 June, 1965], No. 24091/65. Heading A5R. A dental post used to secure an artificial tooth crown to the stump of a natural tooth comprises a head part 10 from which project a shank 13 and a part 16, the face 11 of the head 10 being frusto-conical and the shank 13 having a cutting edge 14 so that the post may be used to drill the hole in the stump into which it is to be cemented. As shown, an adaptor 18 is provided for fitting to the part 16 and for connecting the post to a dental engine, or in an alternative embodiment (Figure 6, not shown), the part 16 and adaptor 18 are integral (26). In use, the artificial tooth crown is cemented over the head part 10 after the part 16 has been severed from the head part. The face 11 may be smooth or may be provided with a serrated cutting surface.
