A tool for inserting a feeding tube into the stem of a plant comprises a mandrel 12 insertable into a feeding tube and secured to a body 10 which is adapted to receive hammer blows, the body having a tapered surface 20 engageable with the end of the mandrel to deliver axial thrust to the tube and to shape or dress the end so as to fit an aperture in a reservoir when the mandrel 12 and the body 10 have been removed. The tube is inserted into a recess 18 having the surface 20 which may be conical or formed with a radius. An adjustable stop 21 is provided for limiting the depth of penetration of the tube into the stem.
