Abstract
853,169. Electrophotographic processes. CARIBONUM Ltd. Dec. 16, 1958 [Dec. 19, 1957], No. 39531/57. Class 98(2) In the automatic xerographic contact printer of Specification 853,168 for successively charging, contact printing, powder developing and fixing the powder image on copy paper having a photoconductive insulating layer, the electrostatic charge image bearing paper passes between a magnetic brush charged with toner powder and a rotating brush forming magnet. As shown, the copy paper is fed upwards from a rotating transparent contact-printing cylinder on the underside of a brass plate 52. A quatrifoil bar-magnet forms a brush 54 of iron carrier particles mixed with triboelectrically charged toner powder and its anti-clockwise rotation produces a rising and falling movement of the brush and a rolling movement of the carrier particles over the copy paper which moves between the brush and plate 52. Carrier particles which are depleted of toner powder fall from the magnetic brush and are deflected by blade 55 on to vibrating tray 56. Tray 56 is pivotally mounted on resilient links 72 and connected with an electromagnetic vibrator (Fig. 1, not shown) which moves the particles to the rear end of the tray. A further vibrating tray 58 is mounted on flexible links 74 and feeds the particles to the magnetic brush. Fresh toner powder is added at the rear of tray 56.
