Abstract

852,283. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems; valves. PARKER-HANNIFIN CORPORATION. Dec. 10, 1956, No. 37607/56. Class 135. In a fluid-pressureoperated valve for controlling the level of fuel in a tank and having the main valve controlled by a diaphragm, a pilot valve for controlling the flow of fluid from the diaphragm chamber to the tank comprises a primary valve and a secondary valve, a float and means operated by the float, including a lost motion connection between the float and the secondary valve, for opening first the primary valve and then the secondary valve. The primary valve 43 coacts with a cone-shaped valve seat 41 formed in the outlet from the diaphragm chamber and has a central orifice 45 formed with a cone-shaped seat 46 to coact with the primary valve 42. An actuating stem 53 moved by the float arm 51, pivoted at 52, carries a V-shaped head 58 to engage the underside of the secondary valve 43 to open it and a rod 60 rigidly connected to the primary valve 42, the V-shaped head being spaced away from the secondary valve when both valves are closed, such that the actuating stem will open the primary valve first and then the secondary valve.
