Abstract

Acryl-, methacryl- and croton-hydroxamic acids are prepared by interacting esters of acrylic, methacrylic and crotonic acid respectively with hydroxylamine in the presence of aqueous alkali. C1-4 alkyl esters are preferred. Preferred temperatures are from -10 to +20 DEG C. The products may be isolated by neutralising or acidifying the reaction mixture, evaporating to dryness and extracting with a suitable solvent or by forming the insoluble copper-complex and then isolating and decomposing this, e.g. with H2S. Specification 852,100 is referred to.
