Abstract
851,500. Ratchet gearing. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 19, 1957 [Dec. 22, 1956], No. 39490/57. Class 80 (3). In ratchet mechanism, particularly for automatic telephone systems, wherein in order to prevent over-run the end 9 of a pawl 8 driving a ratchet wheel 12 engages a stationary guide surface 13 extending parallel to the. rest position of the adjacent tooth surface 17, the pawl end 9 is formed as two concentric arcuate surfaces, preferably of different radii, contacting respectively the tooth surface 17 and the guide surface 13. Thus as the pawl 8 moves to the left it can move angularly relatively to the parallel surfaces 17, 13 while still maintaining constant the distance between the surfaces, and hence still preventing over-run of the wheel 12. As shown the pawl 8 is pivoted to the spring- loaded pivoted armature of an electromagnet 2 and is loaded by a blade spring 21. A spring- loaded pivoted pawl 18 prevents backrunning of the wheel 12. The pawl 8 is preferably made of nylon.
