Abstract
851,449. Free-piston pumps. JAN1CKE, H. June 21, 1957 [June 23, 1956], No. 19546/57. Class 7(2). [Also in Group XXVIII] In a free piston internal combustion engine driven pump, the pump is so arranged that during the idling operation of the engine no liquid is delivered. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the pumps 8, 81 are disposed at right angles to the engine pistons 2 and are actuated by links 7, 7<SP>1</SP> which during the idle running of the engine transmit little movement to the pump piston but as the stroke of the engine piston increases so the ratio pump stroke: engine stroke increases. The pump pistons control inlet ports in the cylinder wall and during the idle running of the engine the pump pistons do not close these ports; the output of the pump which may be in circuit.with a hydraulic motor is hence proportional to the engine stroke and the quantity of fuel supplied to the engine. Air to the engine inlet ports 5 and the recuperation cylinders 14, 14<SP>1</SP> is supplied by a compressor 30 driven by an exhaust gas driven turbine 11 connected to the engine exhaust ports 6. In a modification Fig. 3, the pump and engine pistons are directly connected, the pump pistons 21, 211 controlling the inlet ports 28, 281 from the motor 23.
