Abstract

850,941. Thermal regenerators. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. Sept. 24, 1957 [Sept. 27, 1956]. No. 29949/57. Class 64(1) In a method of making a thermal regenerator, particularly for hot gas engines, refrigerators or heat pumps, in which a filling material is embraced by a wall, the filling material 2 is placed in a jig 1 (Fig. 1), a fluid or plastic material being introduced into an annular space 3 surrounding the filling material and subsequently solidifying to form the wall. The wall may be made of a ceramic material or of an organic material such as silicone rubber. The filling material may comprise sheets of wire gauze, thin perforated plates, or, as shown in Fig. 3, a mass 5 of thin wire such as described in Specification 747,706, and the regenerator may be strengthened by providing around the regenerator wall 6 a further wall 7 of a material such as a thermo-setting synthetic resin.
