Abstract

994,934. Thermal regenerators. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Jan. 3, 1963 [Jan. 5, 1962], No. 402/63. Heading F4K. A heat storing mass such as a regenerator matrix comprises a body portion 22, in which thin-walled through-passages are formed, and rigid supporting walls, 30, 32; the body and walls being made of ceramic material and joined together by a foamed ceramic cement having a low coefficient of expansion similar to that of the ceramic material. In the rotary regenerator matrix shown the gas passages run axially. Another matrix is described in which the passages extend radially. A segmental matrix is also described. The Specification includes details of suitable ceramic materials and describes methods of making the heat exchanger. Specifications 442,526, 829,447 and 882,484 are referred to.
