Abstract

1,077,192. Thermal regenerators. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Feb. 3, 1966 [March 29, 1965], No. 4759/66. Heading F4K. A rotary matrix in a thermal regenerator comprises an annular body 10 which includes heat exchange structure (e.g. plates 40, 42, Fig. 2) and which is held together as a unit by frustoconical end rims 28. These end rims are stated to have a moment of distortion under operating conditions in a direction 48 which counteracts the usual direction 44 of the moment of distortion of the heat transfer structure, and therefore minimizes the overall distortion of the matrix whereby the effectiveness of the seals through which the matrix passes as it moves between hot and cold gas zones of the regenerator, is maintained.
