Abstract

A detergent block comprises a synthetic detergent, suitably sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, a filler or binder, and a deodorant and/or germicide such as hexachloroprene. The filler or binder is suitably sodium sulphate, carbonate, phosphate, tripolyphosphate, or carboxymethylcellulose. The blocks are formed by mixing the powdered constituents and then subjecting them to compression under a pressure of 1-10 tons per sq. in. The block obtained is conveniently used by placing it in a sieved container which is whisked or agitated in water until the required amount of detergent has been dissolved, whereafter the container with the block is hung up to dry.
