Abstract
850,121. Tipping vehicles. JOHNSON (MACHINERY) Ltd., C. H. Feb. 20, 1959 [April 26, 1958], No. 13300/58. Classes 79(2), 79(3), 79(4) and. 79(5). The chassis of a tipping vehicle is constructed in two parts which are movable relative to one another about a central longitudinal axis. The rear portion, which comprises the frame structure 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 upon which is mounted the engine 9, gear box 13, and a belt drive 43, is mounted upon the rear axle casing 14. A stepped cylindrical member 22 extends forwardly from and is secured to the box girder 5, 6, 7, 8 of the rear frame through plates 21 and the front portion, which comprises the frame structure 16, 17, 18, 19 and the front axle beam 20, is pivotally mounted thereon as seen in section in Fig. 5, a block 26 attached to the frame member 18 being bushed to provide a rear bearing and a front bearing bush 24 being provided in the axle beam 20. The driver's seat 10 and a steering column 39 is mounted upon the rear portion and the steering mechanism comprises the worm gear 37, 38, drop arm 36 and linkages 35, 34, 32, 33, the steerable front wheels being pivoted to the axle beam at 30. The skip 53 is retained in the position shown in Fig. 1 by the latch mechanism 57, 56 operated by the handle 58 and can roll to a tipping position upon members 55 rolling upon the frame members 16 under the lateral restraint of pivoted arms 54. The drive mechanism, Fig. 6, comprises an output shaft 42 from the gear box upon which is mounted a smaller pulley 44 upon roller bearings 45 carried by a stub shaft 46, and which belt drives a larger pulley 47 bolted to a flange 48 on the input shaft 15 of the differential gearing. The flange 51 of the pulley 47 extends partly over the differential casing and the pulley is supported upon a bearing upon a stub shaft 50. The pulleys and belt are enclosed within a casing 43.
