Abstract
849,945. Magnetic switches. AUTO CALL CO. Ltd. Feb. 4, 1959 [Feb. 7, 1958], No. 4139/58. Class 38 (5). In a magnetic switching device, which may be used in a burglar alarm, a biased contact actuating magnet mounted in one member is normally repelled against its bias by a magnet in another member, and relative movement between the member separates the magnets to permit contact operation. As shown, a plate 7 closes a cavity 6 in the lintel 2 of a swing door 1 and carries a bracket 8 pivotally supporting an arm 9. The latter carries a mercury switch 14 at one end and a permanent magnet 11 at the other, the weight of the magnet biasing the arm 9 to the dotted position in which the switch is open. The door carries a second permanent 3 which when the door is closed repels the magnet 11 to maintain the switch contacts closed. The magnets are both polarised in the direction of movement of the door so that the magnet 11 is attracted after the magnet 3 has moved a small amount.
