The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in switches operated by the opening and closing movement of a door to energize or sound an alarm, such as a door bell.
An important object of the invention is to provide a door operated switch which is closed by a predetermined opening as well as a predetermined closing movement of the door.
Another object is to provide a door operated switch embodying a pair of spaced apart resilient Contact lingers mounted on a door frame and in the path of a contact plate carried by the door to bridge the resilient contact and close the circuit leading to the signal or alarm.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efficient and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted to the purposes for which the same in intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional view taken on a line 2-2 of Figure l; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional View taken on a line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have diSClOSed a preferred embodiment of the invention the 11u- Ineral 5 designates a pair of coil springs mounted in spaced apart relation with respect to each other in a horizontal position in an insulation block 6 and with one end of the springs projecting outwardly from the block to form a pair of resilient contacts.
The inner ends of the springs 5 are frictionally tted in a pair of conductor sleeves I in which terminal screws 8 are threaded for attaching circuit wires 9 thereto.
The block 6 is attached to a door frame I 0 adjacent the hinged edge of a door II and the circuit wires 9 are connected to a battery I2, or other suitable source of current, such as a house circuit and in the circuit a bell I3 or other suitable audible or visual signal is connected.
(Cl. 200-6L78) An insulation plate I4 is attached to the door II and in the outer surface of which is suitably secured a conductor or movable Contact plate I5 positioned for contacting and bridging the resilient contacts 5 upon an initial opening movement of the door whereby to close the circuit and energize the bell or alarm I3.
As the door continues its opening movement the contacts 5 are flexed and slide olf of the contact plate I5, as shown by dotted lines in Figure 2 of the drawing, to break the circuit and as the door is again closed the contacts 5 will slide across the contact I5 to again close the circuit.
In View of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing it is believed that a clear understanding of the del vice will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention` as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
A door actuated switch comprising an insulated contact plate carried by the door, and a pair of resilient elongated contact members attached in spaced relation to each other to a supporting structure and having free end portions spaced from the contact plate when the door is closed and disposed in the path of the contact plate to temporarily bridge the contact members during a predetermined period in both the opening and closing movements of the door, said contact members being placed under tension by the door during opening movement thereof and held in engagement therewith behind the door to urge the door toward its closed position.
