Abstract

1,166,152. Burglar alarms. A. E. GOLDFARB. 23 June, 1967 [23 June, 1966], No. 29197/67. Heading G4N. [Also in Division H3] A burglar alarm comprises a portable proximity-detecting switch capable of being attached (e.g. by a hook 12) to a projection (such as a door knob) on the inside of a door so as to operate an alarm on the proximity of a person to the outside of the door. The circuit is connected to A.C. mains 30, 31 which is arranged to bias a neon tube 46 so that it is normally just non-conductive, but becomes conductive when a person approaches the door knob to which the hook 12 is attached. This action triggers an S.C.R. 65 which operates a buzzer 85. Ganged switches 33, 34 are set to position 36 when the device is used on a wooden door and to positions 37, 40 so as to reduce the sensitivity when the device is used on a metal door. Manual sensitivity adjustments 45, 63 and a temperature-compensating thermistor 73 are provided. The triggering stability is improved by allowing light from an indicating neon 26 to fall on the neon tube 46. A weighted spring wedge 22 attached to a cord 21 is inserted between the door and the jamb so as to close contacts 80, 81 and sound the buzzer 85 when the door is opened.
