Abstract

The system is operated by a pressure release switch 4 which, when activated, completes the circuit sounding the alarm sounder 3, the alarm set switch 2 having previously been set. The switch is designed to fit in a pad (5, Figs 2 + 3, not shown) on which the foot of the jack of the caravan rests, in use. Alternatively, the switch can be set beneath a hitch lock. The switch can, alternatively, be set beneath a wheel of a vehicle. <IMAGE>

Description

THE DESCRIPTION CARAVAN ALERT SYSTEM This invention relates to a caravan anti-theft installation.
There are various means of securing a caravan but it is a well known fact that many can be removed by professional thieves.
This invention is a booby trap system comprising a pressure release switch, an alarm sounder, an alarm set switch, all operated by and connected to the caravan 12 volt battery.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1: shows the wiring diagram and component parts of the system.
Fig 2: shows in perspective the ground pad.
Fig 3: shows in plan the ground pad.
Referring to drawing sheet 1/2 Fig 1 the installation consists of the caravan 12V battery 1, an alarm set switch 2, an alarm sounder 3 and a pressure release switch 4.
Drawing sheet 2/2 Fig 2 shows the ground pad 5 and plug 6, and Fig 3 shows the ground pad 5, the plug 6 in position, concealing the pressure release switch 4 which is also concealed beneath the foot of the jack 7.
The wiring to the switch 4 is concealed within the leg of the jack, up into the caravan where both the alarm sounder 3, alarm set switch 2 and power supply 1 are situated.
The shape of the slot in the ground pad 5 coincides with that of the release switch 4. The foot of the jack 7 is lowered into position on top of the ground pad 5. The pressure release switch 4 is then pushed into the slot of the ground pad 5. The plug 6 is placed in position concealing the pressure release switch 4.
Once in position the alarm set, switch 2 can be set to 'on' and the caravan door locked.
When the jack foot 7 is lifted, pressure is released, the jaws of the pressure release switch 4 close, completing the circuit and sounding the alarm.
When the thief has fled, the alarm sounder 3 can be silenced by switching the alarm set switch 2 to off and the whole system re-set as before described.
This installation is intended as a secondary system being an invisible installation coming into use once other visible security means (i.e. a hitch lock or wheel clamp) have been successfully removed.
Alternatively, the pressure release switch can be set beneath say a hitch lock whereby the installation is activated by the removal of the hitch lock. In this case the wiring would be easily concealed within the towing mechanism and the ground pad would not be necessary.

Claims (6)

1. A caravan alert system comprising an alarm set switch, an alarm sounder and a pressure release switch all wired to the 12V caravan battery.
2. A caravan alert system as described in Claim 1 but including the special ground pad when using the caravan jack foot method of setting the alarm.
3. A caravan alert system as described herein with reference to Drawing sheets 1/2 and 2/2, Figures 1, 2 and 3.
4. A caravan alert system as described in Claims 1, 2 and 3 when used to secure a horse box or other form of trailer where a 12V battery is specifically installed.
5. A caravan alert system as described in Claims 1 and 3, when used to secure a motor vehicle where the pressure release switch is set beneath the wheels of the vehicle.
6. A caravan alert system as described in Claims 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 using the pressure release switch but connected to a 240 volt supply with an alarm sounder fitted to a nearby building.
