Abstract
849,934. Thermal switches; fluid actuation of switches. BRAMALL & CO. Ltd., W. H. and NAPIER, A. R. Oct. 27, 1958 [Oct. 8, 1957], No. 31386/57. Class 38 (5). A switch-controlling pressure or temperatureresponsive gauge comprises a Bourdon tube 4a whose movement is transmitted through a spindle 7 to a pointer 6, and through an arm 8a and adjustment screw 8b to a slotted arm 8. Mercury switches 9 are secured to a hollow circular casing 14 having internal peripheral teeth which engage with a rotary pinion 15 mounted on a block 16. This block is rotatably mounted by ball-bearings 17 on a fixed member 10, through which passes a rotary spindle 11 having a pinion 13 engaging with the pinion 15, and an adjusting head 12 protruding through a dial 5. Normally springs 18 force the casing 14 into frictional engagement with the arm 8 so that movement of the Bourdon tube produces rotation of the casing and switches 9. This friction clutch effect can be overcome by rotating the head 12 to adjust the switches 9 to any desired position, after removal of the dial cover.
