Abstract
849,860. Semi-conductor devices. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. April 24, 1959 [July 2, 1958], No. 21251/58. Class 37 A solidified dessicant ring 10 is mounted in the sealed housing of a semi-conductor rectifier 1 to absorb moisture occluded from the metal surfaces. The rectifier is mounted on a heat sink 2 and has a top piece 3. The hermetically sealed envelope is completed by metal members 4, 5, 6, 7 and a glass ring 8. The apparatus is pumped out and filled with a dry gas through a tube 9 which is then pinched off. The dessicant ring 10 protects the rectifier during brazing operations on the casing. The dessicant is of aluminium sodium silicate which has been subjected to molecular sieving and dried. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the dessicant ring is taller and narrower.
