Abstract

1371828 Temperature control of semiconductor devices PLESSEY CO Ltd 16 May 1973 [29 June 1972] 30463/72 Heading H1K One or more semi-conductor devices 3 are mounted on the end wall of a metal container 2 which has a glass jacket 5 on its major surface. A cover sealed to the jacket completes an evacuated enclosure containing the device(s). The metal container holds a temperature control medium which allows the devices to be operated at above or below the ambient temperature. The device shown has two infra red detectors 3 with leads 4 provided with glass sleeves 6 which are fused to the glass jacket 5 before the cover part 8 (of glass or metal) is attached thereto. The jacket may be applied to the container as a preformed cylinder or by fusing glass frit. The upper cover part 9 (also of glass or metal) has a radiation-transparent window 17 and an evacuation nipple 18, sealed to complete the structure. Liquid nitrogen may be held in or circulated through the container.
