A waterborne alighting platform for helicopter and vertical take-off aircraft comprising a platform P supported on long tubular pontoons T has buoyancy tanks BT near and just above the waterline at the upstream and downstream ends of the platform to provide additional buoyancy compensating for the weight of an alighting aircraft if it alights forward or aft of the athwartships centre line of the platform or when an aircraft is moved into such a position.
