Abstract
760,525. Hydrofoil boats ; alighting gear for aircraft. LEE, F. E. HANNING-.May 31, 1955 [June 4, 1954], No. 16619/54. Classes 4 and 113. In an aircraft provided with a hydrofoil 11 having two ends 15 which are attached to the main plane 10 on opposite sides of the hull 12, the hydrofoil extends downwards and inwards from each of its ends and passes under the aircraft hull. The section of the lower parts of the hydrofoil at VI-VI is a thin wedge with the sharp end of the wedge leading, or is of ogival section, whereas the higher ports at V-V have an aerofoil section to provide lift after they have emerged from the water. Flotation tanks 18 maintain static stability. The tailplane or stabiliser 20, Fig. 3, is also provided with a hydrofoil 19 which is braced to the hull 12 by ventral fins 21, which fins may be provided with rudders.
