Abstract

755,965. Helicopters. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. Nov. 19, 1954 [Nov. 19, 1953], No. 32138/53. Class 4. [Also in Group XXX] A rotary wing aircraft has an opening in the bottom of its fuselage normally covered by a platform, and means for lowering the platform at will to a level below any undercarriage the machine may possess. The fuselage 5 is provided with an opening 4 into which fits a platform 3 supported at each corner by a cable 6, the cables passing through guides 12 and over pulleys 13 to a winch unit 14, 16, 17, 18 whereby the platform may be raised or lowered to enable men or stores to be loaded or unloaded when the aircraft is hovering over terrain unsuitable for a normal landing. Collapsible and removable hand-rails 19 may be provided on the platform and folding seats 20 may be provided in the fuselage in way of the opening 4. In an alternative arrangement the platform may be a pontoon for use on water, which in its raised position forms a faired protuberance sealed round its edges on the underside of the fuselage 5.
