Abstract
1,063,652. Aircraft landing places. MINISTER OF AVIATION LONDON. Oct. 22, 1965 [Oct. 23, 1964], No. 43326/64. Heading B7G. Handling equipment to facilitate the landing of a VTOL aircraft, e.g. a helicopter, on a movable platform such as a ship's deck, comprises a cable guide 13, through which a cable lowered from the aircraft may be led to a winch 15 on the platform, movably mounted on a trackway 18 (Fig. 4, not shown) so that as the aircraft moves relative to the platform, the guide tends to remain underneath the aircraft. The trackway is arcuate, and as seen in end elevation (Fig. 1, not shown) is centred on the centre of roll of the ship. The trackway may also be arcuate as seen in plan, and the curvature in both planes is achieved by its lying in a plane inclined at 45 degrees to the horizontal. The point of attachment of the cable to the winch lies on the polar axis of the trackway.
