139,295. Blackburn Aeroplane & Motor Co., and Booth, H. Feb. 22, 1919. Specially-shaped boxes; fittings, external. -A container for carrying mails, merchandise, &c. on aircraft, particularly aeroplanes, is formed with an upper surface adapted to fit against the fuselage or lower wing of the machine, the rest of the surface being of streamline form in the direction of flight. Fig. 6 shows a container 1, secured beneath an aeroplane fuselage, against which it is held by quick-release catches, or by the cable 7 of a winch provided for hoisting. The container has a central lug 8 with a series of holes 9 to enable the hoisting-cable to be connected above the centre of gravity of the container, and pins 10 on the container enter holes in a plate 11 on the fuselage to retain the container in its correct relative position. The positions of the pins 10 and corresponding holes may be interchanged. The container is provided with bulkheads to prevent movement of the contents, and, when used on a seaplane, is made watertight and is provided with a towing-ring 15.
