Abstract

821,901. Flotation gear for aircraft. SUDAVIATION, SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. July 3, 1957 [July 18,1956], No. 21080/57. Class 4. Flotation gear for a helicopter comprises a frame 1 which may be readily attached to the airframe, consisting of a top inclined N frame having an outer longitudinal member 3, and an outwardly inclined side frame having end members 4, 5 and longitudinal members 7 and 8. A dished plate member 9 is secured to member 3 and 8 and is formed with end plates 9b and a fabric strip 17 is secured at its lower edge to member 8 and is releasably attached by press studs or the llike along its upper edge to the member 3. The plate 9 and strip 17 form a cavity to house a deflated buoyancy bag 11 secured to the structure by fabric panels 12 and 13. Inflation bottles 20 are secured to the structure and have an inflation connection 24 with bag 11 so that upon operation of a control member 23 by the airscrew or by the operation of an automatic immersion control (not shown), the bag becomes inflated and forcibly releases the press studs securing strip 17 to take up the inflated position shown in Fig. 4.
