[Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Bomb handling gear for aircraft comprises a multi-layer bomb magazine in the fuselage, a bomb mounting movable from a loading position above the magazine to a bomb-release position outside the aircraft, a hoisting gear for raising and lowering a bomb carrier relatively to the bomb mounting and means for locating the bomb carrier on the bomb mounting in the raised position. In the form shown, the bomb magazines a, c, Fig. 4, accommodating bombs 33 of different sizes are mounted within the hull of a flying boat between frames 11 movable about pivots 12 and filled with locating crutches 13. For loading and releasing the bombs, the bomb frames 23 are socketed at 26 to bomb mountings 14 movable transversely of the hull by hydraulic jacks 20. The bomb frames 23 are raised and lowered with respect to the mountings by cable gear 27 connected to jacks 30. The bombs are hooked in the usual way at 35 to carriers 24 on the frames 23. The arrangement permits of raising bombs from a scow alongside the aircraft and loading them into the magazines, or of raising bombs from the magazines for release at the sides of the hull. The mountings 14 carry covers 16 for side hatches on the hull. Fig. 2 shows a part only of the disposition of the bomb mountings 14 with respect to four staggered bomb magazines, the magazines a, b being loaded and unloaded on the port side the other two being on the starboard side.
