Abstract
849,674. Thermal regenerators. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER A.B. Feb. 27, 1957 [Feb. 28, 1956], No. 6572/57. Class 64(1) A thermal regenerator comprises a rotor in which heat transfer plates are arranged in at least two superimposed layers, one of which is located at the " cold " end of the rotor, the plates in this layer being arranged in packs which are removable from the said " cold " end of rotor through a closable manhole 6, provided in at least one duct 5 at the " cold " end of the rotor. In the form shown, the rotor is divided by radial partitions 18 into sector-shaped compartments each of which contains four plate packs 10, 15, 16 and 19 respectively, disposed as shown one behind the other. Packs 15, 16 and 19 are supported on ledges 17 provided on the radial partitions 18, but the radially outermost pack 10 is supported by means of removable bars 11 extending between supports 12, 13 secured respectively to the rotor shell 1 and the lower edge of next adjacent plate pack 15. When the rotor plate packs require attention, the cover is removed from the manhole 6, a temporary platform 9 is placed across the duct 5 and the plate pack 10 in one of the rotor sectors is lifted so that bars 11 can be removed whereupon plate pack 10 followed by the remaining packs in the sector can be withdrawn from the rotor end for inspection or replacement.
