Abstract

740,506. Regenerative heatexchangers. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AKTIEBOLAG. Sept. 10, 1953 [Sept. 10, 1952], No. 25050/53. Class 64(1). In a rotary regenerative heat-exchanger the rotor comprises a plurality of substantially sector-shaped baskets 20 carrying the heat transfer material (e.g. spaced metal plates) and so positioned around a central rotor post 12 that the radial sides 21 of contiguous baskets define partitions extending radially from the rotor post to the outer periphery of the rotor which is defined by contiguous arc-shaped outer walls 23 of the baskets. In the form shown the contiguous sides of adjacent baskets are bolted together and are spaced slightly apart e.g. by members 30 to accommodate radial sealing strips 27, Fig. 6, bearing on end plates 28 of a stationary housing surrounding the rotor. The baskets are bolted to the rotor post at their upper ends, the lower end of each basket adjacent the rotor post resting on a ledge 25 formed thereon. The baskets are open at their top and bottom ends and the heat transfer material is supported in the baskets by chordlike bars or reticulated grids. The rotor is rotated by rack and pinion, the rack comprising interconnected arcuate segments 35, Fig. 2, each of which is slidable on a pin 39 projecting from one of the baskets. By this arrangement it is stated thermal expansion of the rotor is permitted whilst the rack drive remains unaffected.
