Abstract

1,113,457. Thermal regenerators. H. BRANDT and A. KRITZLER (trading as APPARATEBAU ROTHEMUHLE BRANDT & KRITZLER]. 8 Oct., 1965 [16 Oct., 1964], No. 42880/65. Heading F4K. A trapezoidal chamber 19 formed along the interior of a cylindrical heat exchange regenerator by radial and longitudinal cylindrical partitions is filled by a pack of alternating plain, or undulating, and corrugated plates, the latter having a constant corrugation height. The pack of plates comprises a central subpack 21 having alternating undulating and corrugated plates 16, 22 held together parallelly by wire 20 and enclosed between two outer and substantially triangular sub-packs 27, the alternating plates thereof having successively increasing widths 28, 29, 30 and 31. The subpacks 27 are secured by staples 32 to the central sub-pack, the complete pack 23 then fitting in the chamber 19. In a modification Fig. 5 (not shown), the outer-sub-packs 43 have their widest plates at the outer edge of the complete pack 23. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the chamber 19 is filled with a pack comprising two outer and converging sub-packs 34, the alternating plates of each being parallel. The central triangular shape between the packs 34 is filled with a triangular assembly 37 having plates of widths 38, 39, 40 and 41, the latter being the widest and at the centre of the complete pack. The binding wire 20 holds all the sub-packs together, only the plates of the assembly 37 being nailed together.
