Class 64(1) In a thermal regenerator plate pack in which a set of deeply and contiguously corrugated plates 7 alternate with substantially "flat" plates 6 to form flow channels 17. at least some of the plates are formed with dimples 13 and corresponding prominences 14, the arrangement being such at least one of the boundary wall portions of each channel 17 is constituted by dimpled plate material. The dimples are preferably formed by shallowly corrugating the plate material in two directions at an angle to each other. The plates in a pack may be bound together by metal bands and the radial width of successive packs in a compartment of the rotor may decrease in a direction radially outwardly from the rotor axis. Also the packs may be superimposed in the rotor compartments.
