Abstract

849,578. Bottle-caps. FIELDS, M. R. Nov. 18, 1958 [Nov. 18, 1957], No. 37125/58. Class 125(3). A tamper-proof bottle-closure comprises an inner screw-threaded cap 1 engageable with the threaded neck of a bottle and an outer shell 30 which is pressed down over the cap 1. When the latter is on the bottle so as to interlock with the' cap to prevent relative movement therewith, the shell having an integral downwardly extending frangible tab 38 which engages an abutment surface 22 formed on the bottle below the threads so that the tab is fractured or deformed when the cap is unscrewed. The abutment surface consists of a cam-like portion 22 formed in the bead 14 below the screw threading on the bottle, the bead being slotted at 16 to allow the tab normally to lie flat against the bottle. The tab has a slit 39 along it, leaving two narrow bridge-portions 40 which will either be ruptured by turning the cap or show signs of distortion. The shell is of plastic, e.g. polystyrene, and the inner cap is of metal but the usual rolled edge at the bottom end 8 of the threading is omitted, leaving a rough or sharpened edge which readily bites info the rim 32 of the shell as the latter is forced home.
