A multi-feeder cylinder and dial machine has a yarn feeding unit for each feeder comprising a wheel 13, around which the yarn is partly lapped on its way to the needles from its supply, and which wheel is frictionally driven from a common driving-wheel 53 secured to the dial driving gear 9. Each wheel 13 is secured to a shaft 19 extending through an opening in a bracket 14 and carried by a bearing-block 21. The end of the shaft 19 carries a friction disc 26, 27 which is resiliently urged into contact with the wheel 53 to constitute the frictional drive for the wheel 13. The bearing-block 21 also receives a vertical screw 33 which may be turned by a knob 40 to raise or lower the block and consequently vary the position of contact between the disc 26, 27 and wheel 53 to alter the speed of rotation of the wheel 13 feeding the yarn. The knob 40 is secured to a sleeve 35 which has a pin-and-slot connection 36, 37 with the screw 33 and which also is formed at its lower end as a spur pinion 45. This pinion 45 engages a ring- gear 46 common to the pinion 45 of each unit so that adjustment of the knob 40 of one unit when the gears 45, 46 are in engagement, to vary the speed of wheel 13 simultaneously adjust the speed of all the yarn feeding wheels 13. If, however, the knob 40 of any unit is raised, the gear 45 is removed from engagement with the gear 46 and the individual adjustment of that unit may be made without affecting the others. A collar 41 is secured beneath the knob 40 and is calibrated to indicate the extent of adjustment made. The back of each wheel 13 is hollow except for vanes 60 which serve to create a stream of air to dissipate fluff or lint. Specification 810,305 is referred to.
