Abstract

848,705. Look-out reflectors for vehicles. BATTERSBY, D. J. June 19, 1957 [June 23, 1956], No. 19525/56. Class 103(2). [Also in Group XXV] A rear-view mirror 10 is adjustably mounted at 12 on a pillar 11 carrying a spindle 15 loaded axially by a spring 24 which urges into engagement the end surface 14 of the pillar and the surface of the head 17 of a base having a threaded sleeve 18 securable to a vehicle (e.g. to a wing) by a nut 19, the engaging surfaces being formed with rings of mating radial serrations 26 spaced inwardly from the peripheral edges of the surfaces, whereby the pillar is positively located relative to the base but can rotate in the base if the mirror encounters an obstruction. The spring is rotatable in a bush 23, slidable in the sleeve 18 the bush being retained by a C-washer engaging a groove in the spindle. The spindle is also rotatable in a spigot 22 which is rotatable in a recess 16 in the pillar. The serrations are of sine-wave form in cross-section. In a modification the recess 16 and spigot 22 are omitted.
