Abstract
980,585. Hinges and pivots. D. J. BATTERSBY. July 17, 1963 [July 26, 1962], No. 28707/62. Heading E2F. [Also in Division B7] Relates to a hinge mounting for a rearview mirror carrying arm (see Division B7). The arm 10, Figs. 2 and 3 is located in different angular positions relative to a bracket 11 by indexing means 14, 15, under the urge of a spring 17 and providing a definite number of positions, and by independent indexing means 18, 19, which are normally inoperative and provide located angular positions for the arm differing in number only by one or two from the number provided by the indexing means 14, 15. As shown in Fig. 3, the spring 17 acts between the bracket 11 and a sleeve 13 secured on the arm 10 and urges a cross-pin 14 on the arm into engagement with any diametrically opposed pair of eight radial serrations 15 on the lower face of a ring 16 slidable on the arm under the urge of a spring or rubber washer 21 between the bracket and the ring. The upper face of the ring 16 has three equiangularly spaced dogs 18 engaging with three of nine recesses 19 on the bracket. By this means the arm may be adjusted through increments of five degrees. Synthetic plastic covers 24 and 22 are provided at the ends of the bracket.
