A float-operated valve comprises a supply nozzle the outlet orifice of which is obturated by a flexible flap or tongue of resilient material which is clamped at one end and is forced against the nozzle to close the valve by the arm of a float-carrying lever acting directly on the flap. The supply valve of a cattle drinking-bowl 12 comprises a supply coupling 10 having an inserted outlet nozzle 15 the end of which is covered by one end of a flap 18 of rubber, this flap being operated upon by the ball-shaped end 23 of an arm on the float lever 21 to close the valve. The other end of the flap fits tightly into an open-ended slot 17 of a bracket 16 on the coupling 10. An anti-splash guard 24 is fitted over a projecting part of the flap 18.
