Abstract
862,927. Valves. NELSON, R. Feb. 11, 1959 [March 14, 1958], No. 8261/58. Class 135. A float valve for supplying a cistern comprises a body A having an inlet end adapted for connection to a supply and a valve seat member C housed at the other end of the body, a valve member E rotatable in bearings D at this end and having an arcuate or circular face which bears against the valve seat, a float J connected to the valve member and adapted to move suddenly from a down position in which the valve is open to an up position in which it is closed, there being a flow port G extending through the valve member from its arcuate face which registers with the orifice opening of the seat C. Journals E<SP>1</SP> of the valve member are retained in the open-ended bearings D by removable pins F carried by a flexible strap F<SP>11</SP> connected to the body. An integral strap and body may be made in a plastics material, e.g. nylon, as may other parts of the valve. The holder float J has a bottom cup part K, Fig. 6, providing a water entry passage L below an air hole M for weighting purposes, and may have an additional inverted air chamber N at the top. The float constitutes part of an outlet tube depending into the cistern and is carried on an arm H fast with the valve member and constituting part of the outlet tube in continuation of the flow port G. A third part of this outlet tube is adjustable longitudinally in the bottom of the float. In a modification (Fig. 7, not shown), the retaining-pins F are omitted and a circular valve member having a cut-out sector is engaged over a fixed bearing-pin so as to be removable from this pin only when the float arm is turned to a vertically upwardly extending position. A stop O, Fig. 3, limits the down position of the float.
